Optimism rules

We promised that the next blog post would be in a positive vein, and as we look forward to the premier Irish yearling sale at Goffs next week, with the weather forecast to be balmy and the yearlings in great shape, optimism is the order of the day!

The yearling sales season kicked off for Tinnakill House at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale, where we offered five yearlings. Our top price came for the Kyllachy colt out of Ma Paloma who sold to Bobby O’Ryan for £44,000, the second top price for a colt by the sire.

Last week we sold five yearlings at Tattersalls in Fairyhouse. This was an exceptionally strong renewal of the sale, with a number of records smashed. What was particularly encoursaging was the very high clearance rate of 94%, indicating plenty of buyers at all levels. Our top lot was an Acclamation colt out of Night of Dubai, consigned for Forenaghts Stud.

The Goffs yearlings shipped in to Kildare Paddocks yesterday and are settling well into their new surroundings. We had orginally entered nine, but unfortunately the Dalahkani filly out of Gold Dodger met with a slight setback and has had to be withdrawn. Given all the effort that has gone into making her the beautiful filly that she is, maybe fate is intervening and giving us an opportunity to retain her as a broodmare. She truly is our princess, and we would have been very reluctant sellers.

We are delighted with the remainder of the draft: particular standouts have to be Lot 314, the Shamardal colt out of Nenuphar, a half-brother to the dam of Novellist (pictured above) and Lot 438, the Dutch Art colt out of Sularina. We’ve got them there in great shape – stop by Barn M and take a look!
